Boombox Cartel is a DJ duo composed of Mexico-born artists Americo Garcia and Jorge Medina who met while attending music school at the University of Minnesota and have since relocated to Los Angeles. Given their ties with Minnesota, they approached the UMN chapter of AIGA to re-create their look and develop a tour-ready brand. Based upon communications and requests from the duo I created the concept for a brush scripted word mark and graphic sugar skull renditions of Garcia and Medina. After the collaboration with AIGA was complete I was approached for freelance by the Public Relations Representative of Boombox Cartel to finish out the look and expand the brand. My role included creating print materials and apparel to be used on tour in addition to digital materials used for social media and music streaming services. I have since applied the brand to multiple platforms and generated bold illustrative elements from the sugar skull graphics that could be manipulated for use on future ad campaigns by Boombox Cartel.
